Herniated discs can also be referred to as ruptured discs or
extruded discs. A herniated disc is where the nucleus of the disc
pushes through the annular fibers of the disc and leaks into the
spinal canal. This can irritate the spinal nerves either with
pressure or by a chemical reaction. Symptoms of this condition can
be lower back and leg pain. Less than
2% of lower back pain patients will require surgery. At least 6-8
weeks of chiropractic care should be considered before resorting to
a surgical solution, unless neurological problems, urination
difficulties, or progressive muscle weakening occur.
