As with low back pain, mechanical neck pain is hallmarked by
painful active motion in the neck which limits a person's ability to
move the head normally. The pain is often well localized and a
person points to a particular spot in the neck. Frequently, there is
associated radiating pain into the shoulder or high between the
shoulder blades. Sometimes the pain can radiate into the arms and
hands with associated numbness or tingling in the fingers. As with
low back and leg pain, neck pain is often caused by pressure on the
nerve or nerves that control the arm.
